The Roads..
Over the years Fernhurst and its
surrounding areas have had a large number of traffic calming
measures and speed limit reductions implemented. Most of these we feel are disproportionate to danger on the roads. We have learnt to live with the speed camera in the village and the 50mph speed limit at Kingsley Green but we feel that some of the more recent efforts have been excessive!
The 'hashing' of the centre of the road at Kingsley Green (to create the illusion of a narrower road) is pointless. What was a safe overtaking straight is now a bottleneck as overtaking slow vehicles is now illegal!
Other measures include red and yellow paint that seems to have been
applied to the road in various locations, the dangerous traffic
island by the Village hall and more recently the un-slightly traffic
crossing. Last, But by no means least the illuminated sign brigade has invaded us! Currently there is one active and two inactive signs in the village and two more particularly ugly (broken) ones at Kingsley Green. According to the readers letters section in an October Midhurst & Petworth Observer the Traffic Island and 50mph sign at Kingsley Green are due to be removed.
